India's century
NIIT ranks among the premier global information technology (IT) trainers and service providers. The chairman, Rajendra S Pawar spoke to Education Times on the Indian educational system and its place in the world map. Indian education system The Indian educational system holds a strong and prominent position in the global education sector. Our education system has its own limitations and drawbacks but, after studying the educational system of 40 countries, I feel we do have a cutting edge above many other countries.
For instance, we provide a very strong base in mathematics and science. Our deep-rooted Indian values and a tolerant society contribute to some extent in our image formation in the world market. Drawbacks in the system The government should increase its emphasis and investment in the education sector. This is urgently needed as lack of enough resources is a major hindrance in the growth and development of Indian education. A large part of the problem can be solved by adequate funding from the government and non-government sectors to uplift and contribute to the development of education. Higher education can be equally supported by the non-government sectors as well as corporate houses. Moreover there are certain subjects which are rapidly changing like technology and bio-informatics. Thus, flexibility is required in framing the regulations for such courses of study as they are to a large extent driven by market forces. India in the coming years I strongly believe this going to be India's century. It is the century of the mind and knowledge. Intellectual capital is more important than anything else today. India has well educated and enterprising citizens who are contributing to the growth and development of the nation. India has already become a superpower in IT and is progressing more and more in it. To progress more, we need to strengthen our economy and other factors which add to the progress of the nation as a whole. Vision on education My vision on education is that education becomes the driving force to create this century an India's century, which will inturn bring reforms for the progress and development of the nation. Message to the young generation I feel that the present generation is very smart and responsive. I would advise them to imbibe more good values, work hard and take education very seriously. It is the age of knowledge and they should be prepared for lifelong learning as it will contribute in shaping their future.
